The research aimed to understand how such impacts can affect women and girls, particularly the power dynamics between men and women in Indigenous communities.

Local programs are a priority for global mining companies targeting the UNSDGs’ goals for a more sustainable future. The challenge is to create effective and more accurate initiatives that not only fulfil the requirements but bring value and support the needs and the social infrastructure to build the capacity for better outcomes. The social impact study launched by the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) identified social impacts and subsequent demands on social infrastructure within Indigenous host communities to mineral resource development projects in Canada. The research suggests proactive actions to fulfil this call and mitigate negative social and cultural outcomes that an influx of transient workers can have on Indigenous communities resulting from extractive projects. The report recommends a direct outreach to women-only focus groups and

interviews, listening to the women’s voices to design and execute community relations and development programs that are culturally appropriate and would benefit the community.

Our Artemis women-owned-business members can support those proactive actions, leading projects for local communities and opening an empathic dialogue and professional approach to women by women.
